josh is 35 today!

some last minute decorations that have gone up today before the birthday boy gets home from work. it's been an interesting day so far. karoline threw up on me, it's josh's birthday, and i had a dream i turned into a vampire (i'm sure the consequences of reading breaking dawn before i went to bed last night). anyway, i wrote out 35 things i love about josh, inside jokes we have, or things we are looking forward to in the future together on individual sheets of cardstock. i then used washi tape to adhere them to a ribbon that i strung across the room. got the idea from here. hope he is surprised. i also picked up a lemon meringue pie (his favorite dessert) because i realized that after getting thrown up on-you just have to do somethings to make it easier on yourself - you know?!? sometimes you just can't do it all.

hope you all have a great weekend!!

american pickers

my latest addiction is not dark chocolate, listening to the billy elliot soundtrack or washi tape. it's watching american pickers on the history channel. i have watched one or two episodes each night for the last week. have you seen it? it's a reality tv show about two guys that are passionate about antiques and collectibles that have a business called antique archeology in le claire, iowa. they travel all across the united states exploring people's homes, barns, outbuildings, or storage units for antiques to buy. they frequent hoarders, collectors, and people that have inherited a large quantity of junk. if you like the thrill of the hunt and enjoy going to antique shows, rummage sales, thrift stores, estate sales, and auctions, then you will absolutely love this show. the vespa scooter above is one of their finds and they are selling it on their website here.

a domino magazine house tour (oldie but goodie)

you know that old blanket or stuffed animal that is worn around the edges because you carried it around or slept with it so often as a child? or that favorite recipe you have in your recipe binder that is sprinkled with flour and has been used so often it's hard to see the print? well, domino magazine can be compared to the stuffed animal and recipe in this scenario. i use it as a reference for decorating all the time and i bring the corresponding month out to put beside my bed even though it is an archive. found out recently that brides.com is the source for some of domino's archived articles, so if you need a little fix go here.

this particular house was renovated by an architect team of hope dana and kate platt. they turned a faux-colonial into a modern farmhouse (one of my favorite types of architecture) in rural connecticut.  the two-over-two windows, the slate floors in the entryway, the cherry hardwood floors, the thonet bentwood chairs, the built-in bookshelves, and the white-on-white palette all make this one of my favorite houses.

in haus press

just discovered in haus press on etsy via creature comforts and i am getting so inspired for valentine's day. in haus press is a small letterpress studio in san francisco comprised of two people; one with an eye for design and the other a detailed engineer. their valentine gift flags and love greeting cards are a must for this valentine's day.

ice skating party

the white lights, the mason jar votives, the star shaped marshmallows, the galvinized tub filled with ice skates, the blue enamel cups for hot chocolate, the white ironstone pitcher. i mean come on, do winter parties get better than this my friends? just adore all the details and charm that went into this ice skating party.

black and white interior

these images made my heart skip a beat. had to share.

hope you all had a lovely weekend! josh kindly watched k+r on friday night and i had fun with some friends at a much needed girls night out. we saw the king's speech at jane pickens theater (yankee magazine chose this theater as one of the top 5 cinemas in new england).  and then went out for some drinks and food. saturday night we had our neighbors over for a winter slow cooked meal. at one point we were all dancing in the kitchen because rory said, "come on everybody. let's dance." you can't say no to a two-year-old. never thought that kids could take a party to another level, but they did!

i love this

coffee table! if you have toddlers like me around the house, then you probably did away with your coffee table for fear of a head wound or for fear that it would be used as a platform to dive off of onto the hardwood floors. ouch! that hurts just thinking about that. anyway, our coffee table is up in the attic waiting to be brought down once the girls are old enough to use it as a table instead of an injury magnent. i love the idea of attaching large wheels or casters to the bottom to give it more of an industrial look like the one above. i also like the scale of the table. large. square. and anchoring the room. will have to file this photo away for future inspiration.
