a winter walk

it was in the 50's on saturday. a rarity in rhode island in january. so we took full advantage of the sunlight and warmth and headed to sachuest point national wildlife refuge. we walked along the path that hugs the ocean. i couldn't get over how the grasses and vegetation looked like we were in the african savannah on a safari (i have never been but i'm only assuming that's what it looks like from looking at pictures in national geographic). i was almost ready for a giraffe to pop it's head out and stick his tongue out at us. the golden tone was so beautiful to me. it's amazing how refreshed and rejuvenated i feel after a walk in nature. it's free. it opens your heart and mind to the beauty around you. and i slept like an angel that night. okay, it's decided.  i need more walks like this in 2012.

  1. I would love to be able to walk in such a beautiful place. (I do walk in a beautiful place on my walks with Molly the dog each day, just drastically different.)
New England costal landscapes are a part of my primal fiber, thanks for reminding me how lovely they are.

  2. mb:thanks so much for writing! did you grow up in new england? you lucky duck. i'm from the midwest-chagrin falls, ohio so i don't take the daily ocean views for granted.

  3. I grew up in the Northeast with grandparents and aunts and uncles scattered around New England. The NE coastal landscape was so much a part of my life. My grandparents had a house on an island, we would fall to sleep with the sound of the waves rolling in. I spent Summers working in Nantucket too. Love it.
